Does anyone else feel like we went from winter straight into summer and missed spring? It has been SO hot here lately in West Texas and has had me poolside every possible opportunity. Which is why, it’s time to talk swimwear! This topic has been one that is constantly requested so I figured it would be a good one to cover today on the blog!
As a mom and wife next to the many other hats I wear, I’ll be honest in saying, although I wish I was better at forming habits, I am someone who will work out one day and skip two weeks and not think twice about it. That is, until May rolls around. Then, I have that work out “guilt”. Anyone else? I, like the rest of you am constantly trying to find what I look best in when it comes to hiding areas and sucking in what needs to be contained, and finding the most flattering fit. If I can chase my toddler around with convince and feel comfortable, then it’s a winner! I love a cute bikini but have recently started leaning towards one pieces a lot in the last couple of years and I am so glad they are a “thing” right now. I’ve chosen to compile a few suits I feel are suitable for different needs. We’ll begin with one piece and more full coverage. These options are great for all body types and accentuate all the right places.
Here’s a few tips in regard to prints as well. Stripes are huge right now and can be so cute. I would personally encourage vertical stripes if you choose a suit with striping of any kind. These stripes elongate and slim, which is especially good for those with a short torso, where as horizontal striping can widen areas you may not want to look wider. Here are a few striped and printed swimmies I’m loving below. Also, another fun fact in regards to prints vs. none is that if you have a flatter booty, prints help to accentuate and actually make your booty look bigger. If you have a big booty (right here) and want to create the illusion it’s smaller, try a solid design. One more important side note if you have some junk in the trunk like I do, steer clear of Brazilian or skimpier bottoms, unless that is simply the look you’re going for! You do you, boo! Just my opinion!
Let’s talk bikini’s. I love a good bikini and have a few that I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of because they have stood the test of time and have gone through many seasons with me. Anyone else wish Victoria’s Secret would bring back their swim line? I totally wish they would make a come back because I miss their selection and price point, so there’s that. Now, back to reality and the search for the perfect suit! So, at first, I wasn’t so sure, but I am officially loving the high waisted bikini trend right now. They truly do look so flattering on everyone. I love how they hide the mom pouch, y’all and I haven’t seen anyone they don’t look good on. These options below also suit every price range and some of the higher priced suits you will have for years to come!
Now sadly, this section definitely doesn’t pertain to me, but I’ve selected some options for you gals that may be a little bustier but still want to find a cute suit that is age appropriate and fun! This has been one of the most requested, as many suits that we come across in trying to find something can be a little more matronly and look frumpy! Don’t worry, friends! I have you covered! Literally! This section has some great options and size up to a G in most cases. Another take away is to potentially find a swim top with underwire for support so the girls are always in the right place through the cannon-balls and any other shenanigans you may get into at the pool. 😉
Now, if you’re like me and don’t have an issue in finding something to fit your chest, but want something that is accentuating, I would suggest trying a swim top that has ruffles, is embellished or even flowy at the top. This gives the illusion that you have a larger chest. Crazy right?! So true though! Check out these options below. If you have an athletic build, try a padded cup swim top and choose a suit that is bright and colorful and ideally printed. This will help to give you curves and will draw attention to the right places.
Next, all my pregnant mama’s out there!! Is anyone looking for cute maternity options?! Here are a few that look comfortable and so dang cute but are still bump friendly, especially for those who want to keep your bump covered, but don’t want a restricting suit around the bump. I mean obvi! The less restrictive the better, amiright? I’ve also selected a couple of bikini options as well! Take a look below.
So, I also have some adorable plus size options for you to browse! OMGosh, these are all SO cute!! I am loving the transitioning prints and how colorful these options are. You are going to LOVE them!! I wanted to also mention that if you have hips girl, don’t hide them, find a suit that balances shoulders to hips! Try a suit with an off the shoulder top to elongate the clavicle and balance out top to bottom. Below are a few examples.
For you sweet girls that don’t like to show skin due to burning or irritation, or simply just want that flawless skin when we’re old and grey, (you go girl!) here are a few swimsuits that will prevent sunburns and are great for keeping warm in colder waters, on the lake or beach.
Lastly, I thought I’d update you on sizing and how the brands above fit. I would suggest sizing up one size in ASOS as some of their swimwear I’ve noticed runs a little smaller. The same goes for Amazon and Forever 21. The brands or companies with brands I believe fit most True to Size are Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Macy’s and Everything but Water. Feel free to comment below or send me a message if you have any questions! At the end of the day, I am here to help you and be the best resource I can be.
