Along with animal print, skirts are majorly on trend this fall! Mostly broom and leather, but in this case I’ll be sharing and showing you three ways to style a black leather skirt. Really, how you can style them in general, not only a few ways! I love how versatile a leather skirt can be. They are fit for many occasions and can be worn season after season; from summer, to fall, winter and spring. They are so cute year round and I’m so happy to see them being styled all over the gram right now!
I will say, I think there’s a misconception about leather skirts and that they can only be styled one or two ways and only a certain person can pull them off! Also, a myth I’m here put to rest and to share a few ideas I wear often and know will look great on you too, if you’ve been on the fence on whether to not to pull the trigger in adding one to your closet this season.
One common way I’ve seen most and feel is most classic is a sweater, fitted or oversized, with a fun bootie, printed embossed snakeskin or leopard. My favorite look today is a spin on the traditional yet a little edgier. I love to pair my skirts with graphic tees and throw on a denim jacket and a wide brim hat. It’s more of a boho meets rocker chic and a look I think would be so cute for a concert, girl’s night out, or even date night. I probably won’t be wearing this for drop off or pick up, 😉 but think it’s so fun for those mentioned above! You can also totally dress it down. One way I wear it just running around town is to style with a basic white tee and a converse sneaker like the ones linked below. Staying on trend, but also keeping it more casual. I’ll throw on a denim jacket if it’s a cooler day, or tie a plaid flannel around my waist. Another shoe option for this look is to style it with a combat boot. Also making a statement this fall. I never thought I’d say I own a pair of Dr. Marten’s past high school, freshman year at that, but here we are! What goes around, comes around Amiright?! I’m thinking these or these to complete the look.
Another laid-back style is just pairing it with a classic and easy oversized sweater, like the one I have pictured, a ball cap, crossbody, and my Golden Goose. This look is perfect for rooting on your favorite team (guns up) and if you’re a true fan add a pop of color on top and a spirited earring to give the outfit a little pizzazz. Such a fun way to style it, while remaining effortless and chic. I personally love to style my skirts this way, especially with sneakers because I feel like it creates more of an everyday look and can be pulled off so easily without trying too hard.
Lastly, snazzy up your black leather skirt starting with a body con base. I would suggest a bodysuit or more fitted top, especially if you plan to layer. I think this is exceptionally true when adding a faux fur vest, teddy coat or faux fur coat. Going back to the bodysuit. It doesn’t have to be boring. Mine is a burnout fabric with velvet leopard but it’s subtle enough to not be overkill. Add in some texture if you feel like the basics are too basic. Now faux fur. I have a few that are fluffier than others, for a lack of better term, and feel a slimmer base is needed to achieve that polished look. I like to finish this look off with an over the knee boot. You can go a step further and add a hat or like me, just accessorize with a pair of oversized sunglasses. I also think a trench over the top is so pretty and chic. So good for holiday parties, or social events that require you to be a little more dressed up. I am LOVING these trench options and think keeping it monochromatic is so classic and also so on trend. You can also wear a black leather jacket on top too. Sets are also a big trend, so putting pieces together that look like they were bought that way, is never a bad idea. Especially if it’s still warm in your area for coats and vests. I’ve also decided to link a couple of skirts that are a little longer too, so if you’re in the workforce, these would be appropriate for special events, holiday office parties, etc as well. To cinch in your waist, you can always add a fun belt to accentuate, when adding a coat over the top to give your waist a smaller illusion. Love this too if you’re not big into jewelry. It will provide a little more put togetherness and then complete the outfit with a tall boot or heel if you prefer.
I hope this post is helpful and inspires you to try this trend out and step outside the box in making a black leather skirt your own. Let me know how you style it!
