Can you believe Halloween is almost here? It doesn’t seem possible that we’re already half way through the month of October. This is one of my favorite months of the year. That crisp, cool morning air, the leaves changing, carving pumpkins, decorating my porch, and all of the fun fall festivities and Halloween carnivals. Speaking of carnivals, our church actually puts on an amazing Trunk or Treat. Several families participate and go ALL out decorating their trunks and creating a theme at each stop. They have bounce houses, food and of course more treats than imaginable. It’s always so much fun and I look forward to going this year and for Camilla to experience her first Halloween in her cute little costume. It’s always a good time and one of the many opportunities we have that Corbin enjoys. Did I also mention his favorite holiday is Halloween? So last year he was a vampire, but two years prior he was Spiderman and y’all, he literally wore that thing EVERYWHERE. I couldn’t get him out of it for months. It was also that phase of not understanding Halloween only comes around once a year and that “tomorrow” wasn’t Halloween again! Hah! Oh my goodness! Anyone else remember that with their toddler? So funny! Then we went through the vampire phase. Not a scary vampire, but a nice one, he would tell me. Then when his vampire costume and teeth arrived, it was an entirely new dilemma and a flashback of Spiderman all over again. He loved those crazy vampire teeth. It was a hoot!! I kept finding them in bizarre places and he even tried to wear them into pre-school a time or two. That boy! I’m interested to see how Cami will be in those phases. I’ll let you know once we get there!
Today, since everyone is beginning to gear up for all of the fun activities ahead, I thought it would be fun to share a few Halloween books we’ve loved and read this time of year every night before bed. It’s a fun tradition Camilla gets to join now too, as we snuggle up in Corbin’s bed, freshly bathed and ready for a good story to end the day. He picks one each night, sometimes the same one and I read it a “couple” times, but it’s one I enjoy year after year and one we’ve had since he was a little bitty guy. I’ve always read to him but I think we can agree, themed holiday books are the best, amiright?! Memories I hope they will always remember and traditions to someday begin with their littles.
The post wouldn’t be complete without some children’s Halloween outfit inspo and some cute pajamas like the ones pictured too. I mean, how can I not? We are fans of our jammies, guys! I love coordinating the kids, like I’ve mentioned before, and even think its fun in pajama form for all the holidays. Coordinating is always a good idea in my book! Here are some of our favorites below! I hope you enjoy this fun share and that you soak up the rest of October, like we are!
Wishing you a boo-tiful and spook-tacular Halloween season!
I’m so excited to FINALLY share my thoughts on our Halo DreamNest! We’ve been using it for about a month now after outgrowing our Halo bassinet and I have to say, we love it! Camilla sleeps so soundly in it and it gives me such peace of mind even though she’s still sleeping in our room. I’ve told y’all before that the Halo bassinet was one of my favorite purchases this time around! I loved the swivel affect, vibration settings and how tall is was, considering our bed is not an average height. I can confirm now, the DreamNest is right up there with my top favorite baby products!
The transition to the Halo DreamNest was incredibly smooth. Camilla took to it right away and it has surpassed my expectations in regards to safety and comfort. It has a breathable insert or “mattress” which allows the flow of oxygen at all times while your baby sleeps, through the mesh fabric and muslin crib sheet. It can also be stationary or if you prefer, has a rocking type attachment, which has been a great feature that our little girl loves. It also has wheels for the ease of transfer from room to room. We’re currently using the mattress in the bassinet or bassinest position which is great for up to 15 pounds. Soon, we will transition to the lower setting in which the mattress will sit on the bottom and this setting will be sufficient for up to 30 pounds.
I love that she can play/nap in it in the living room while I clean or do laundry and at night I can easily move it into my room for bedtime. It is much more versatile when it comes to mobility. We’ve even traveled with it this summer and once it’s set up is perfect! It is a great size and the bag that it fits in when folded can easily be loaded in a vehicle or if traveling by airplane can be safely checked. The only thing I haven’t mastered is having to collapse our DreamNest. It’s actually kind of difficult to tear down and set up, honestly. Conrad has had to help me on a couple of occasions where we’ve traveled out of town and taken it with us. The mattress will also fold down but has to be completely taken apart, so I just tend to carry it if we’re traveling by car and keep it at it’s full capacity. The frame after collapsing is a little bit more difficult to snap in place than our Pack n’ Play but I definitely like the DreamNest much better once it’s completely set up. I feel like it’s well made which is why it may be a little more trying to put together. Just my opinion! You may find it super easy to set up and collapse, just my opinion alone. Luckily, we don’t have to collapse it often and each time we’ve traveled, Conrad has been there to rescue me from setting it up.
We were also gifteda Halo SleepSack! If you’ve been around here for a hot second, you know I am a believer inwearable blankets for infants! I never used them for Corbin and feel he didn’t sleep as well or as long until he was quite a bit older. We’ve been using them on Camilla since about 6-8 weeks old and she sleeps like a rock for anywhere from 10-12 hours per night. I wish I would have tried them out our first time around, but hey, you live and learn right?! This one is one of our favorites! I love the zipper, how soft it is, and that it keeps her just the right temperature as she sleeps, with our home staying around 68 degrees. The HALO SleepSack grow with your baby – from newborn sizing for their SleepSack swaddle to toddler sized wearable blankets and everything size in between.I would highly, highlyrecommend trying the Halo SleepSack! It is a game changer, my friends and I’m so thankful they have allowed us to trythe HALO SleepSack easy transition which helps control the moro reflex for babies who no longer like to be swaddled, but still need a bit of security around their arms.
We are truly enjoying our DreamNest and if you’re on the fence, I would say definitely add it and a couple of Halo sleep sacks to your registry. Halo stands behind their products and I just feel they are the absolutely best for infancy and beyond in their product line. They have developed and designed state of the art products for every day use and have hit the big check marks every parent has when it comes to purchasing what will be both the most safe and effective.
Thank you to Halo for sponsoring this post and for allowing us to try the new DreamNest. I am a believer in every Halo purchase I’ve ever made and feel so honored to get to share my honest feedback with all of you! I hope you will consider the Dream Nest for your little one as well! If you have one, tell me what you think in the comments!!
Do you ever have those weeks where you feel like you’re so busy and have SO much to do? This week has been one of those for me. Like there is just simply not enough time in the day lately.
Many of you may know this but some of you probably don’t and you may or may not think I’m completely crazy when I tell you. We don’t and have never had a babysitter for Corbin. I know! I need to get on the babysitter train, and it becomes even more evident when I have a list a mile long and he’s over my shenanigans. I just haven’t ever really found anyone I completely trust, and having my parents or Conrad’s Nana close by, we really haven’t found a need to have someone consistently. Until, he throws a fit in the aisle at Target, then I say to myself, we NEED to find a sitter. Haha! However, he does go to school 3 days a week so I really do my best to get all of my errands out of the way during those times, yet it doesn’t always get finished. I’ve had mom guilt about him sitting in the car so long and the amount of screen time he takes in, and then the energy we have to get out once home. He’s usually really good, but I’ve just felt bad that he doesn’t have something fun to do on these jaunts. Until now!
Recently, a company reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in trying out one of their travel trays. We’ve been trying it out all week and Corbin LOVES it! Usually he is one of those that will play with something for a short time and move on, but each day when we get in the car, he’s asked for his tray to draw or color while we’re on the go. I am highly impressed by his consistency and love the tray myself. It is such a great way to organize and has compartments in several areas for storing markers, crayons, paper to color on, and is even sturdy enough for an iPad or Kindle. If you know me, you know I love to stay organized and this allows organization effortlessly. Corbin has even had a snack on his tray and it holds up great, is super sturdy, plus I don’t have to worry about a mess in his car seat after. I just wipe down the tray and we’re good to go. It has been so convenient and is such a cool little contraption. It can buckle around the seat if you have a longer trip planned, so it stays in place, includes a cup holder and the markers included are dry-erase, so mess free. You can also collapse the tray when finished to store and it has velcro to create more of a table if you so choose. The tray also comes with Easy Xplorer paper that is learning friendly. There are letters and numbers to trace, a castle maze, a traceable dragon and unicorn. It will keep your kiddos entertained on those long road trips and even just around town on those busy days.
We are genuinely loving the Easy Xplorer tray and I think it would make an amazing gift with the holidays coming up. Especially since it’s also at a great price point as well, under $20. I’m considering them for my niece and nephews for Christmas, as I think they would all enjoy them so much! It just makes traveling easier, keeps your children occupied with something productive and keeps you organized with all of their colors and other materials they may need.
I think you are all going to love these as well, so I’ve added the link here so you can check them out! So happy to have been given the opportunity to try this tray out, as its such a hit and I appreciate Lucy from Easy Xplorer for allowing us to use and review her amazing product!
It feels like fall, y’all! Hooray!!! It’s so nice and sunny today after a few rainy and dreary days and I’m loving this 60 degree weather! It’s a win, if you are familiar with West Texas and has me digging out all my sweaters and flannels and heading to the pumpkin patch. Just so thankful to live in a world where there are Octobers!
I really love this season and all that comes with it! To be honest, I may have been taking it in almost a little too much. Besides it being fall, it’s also been a season in life where I’ve kind of taken a step back, and chosen to spend more time with my family than on social media. I think it’s hitting me that I only a have a few more months with just my little boy all to myself, so I’ve just put certain projects on the back burner if you will, just because these moments are important and ones I won’t get back. Don’t get me wrong, I love the blog life and working with brands and have things coming up as we roll into the holidays, but sometimes it just feels nice to unplug and live in the present. I feel like I’m also still learning balance between it all, even after a year. Structure is not one of my gifts or strong suits, so I’m simply embracing it and showing myself grace because, why not!? 😉 I love to be organized and have a streak of OCD, but not a specific daily routine, especially now since Corbin is older, I know its something I need to work on. Hoping to get back into the structured life once baby girl gets here.
I also wanted to update you guys. As some of you may know from my stories last week, we had our 20 week anatomy scan. I don’t know why, well yes I do, HORMONES, but was so anxious for this appointment. I think all of the technology and advancement is so amazing, yet can also cause unnecessary worry, totally my opinion, alone. I think too, when we had Corbin I was naive and our doctor had a sonography machine in office so we could see him at each appointment and it was honestly reassuring. Sadly, now (thanks insurance) we have to wait every 10 weeks for an ultrasound. We’ve chosen to forgo testing as well, and didn’t with either pregnancy, as we wouldn’t change a thing regardless and put our faith in the Lord that everything will be perfectly fine and that His will be done. So far our sweet little girl is doing well, is healthy and moving around like crazy. I am at peace now and feel so much better after our scan and am so thankful for this good news. Anyone else ever had that experience? Where you’re just anxious with absolutely no reason in particular making you feel that way? I’m just going to blame it on my crazy preggo hormones and continue to pray for health and all things good.
I am also still wanting meat and indulge on a snow cone every now and then. My cravings are so different this time around, but I’m staying hydrated and always have snacks on hand. 😉 I also feel huge haha but have only gained around 10 pounds. This belly doesn’t lie y’all, and by bedtime, she is sticking out proudly. I look like I’m 8 months along and may or may not waddle a little. I am blessed to not feel sick PTL, yet get a little light-headed (hypoglycemia) if I don’t have a snack between meals, which is why they are always on hand. One thing I love to snack on is frozen grapes. Y’all, if you have’t tried this trick, you must! It is so good!!! I just slice them in halves and stick them in a container in the freezer and a few hours later, delish!
We are in the beginning stages of starting the nursery and she has a few outfits hanging in the closet. Surprisingly, I haven’t gone completely nuts on shopping just yet, but I’m sure it’s coming! The few things I have purchased, I’ve made sure to send to the wrong address on accident! (Pregnancy brain is real.) Last week for instance, I ordered wallpaper for the nursery, a few baby gifts for friends and some Kickee Pants and sent it to my friend in Midland. Oops! Etsy can be tricky because sometimes it will ask where you want the item sent and other times, it auto ships to the first address listed. Thankfully, Conrad is there many days of the week so he gets to also pick up my purchases on his way home! He’s so lucky! Haha! I really am SO excited to see the nursery come together though and will share with you all once it’s complete! I love to decorate and have so many ideas in my head that I’m so excited to see come to life.
Corbin is so sweet lately, and has been calling her “his baby” which melts my mama heart! I can hardly wait to see him with her. It will be so sweet to witness their bond and to watch it grow and for him to finally have a sibling. I know my heart will grow also. It’s just been the three of us and just having Corbin for the past 4 years has been so special. I used to get upset that we didn’t have children closer together in age, but now I’m grateful. Realizing God’s perfect plan and that it is so much bigger that what I could ever imagine, gives me so much peace and that we’ve been given time with just Corbin makes me thankful. He will be such a great big brother and I know will love her so much. I’m sure he’ll teach her a few of his antics as well.
Conrad and I have yet to come to an agreement on a baby name at this point, lol as he is adamant that he will get to choose her name. Can’t lie, it’s a little scary to think about and I am pretty sure it was one of the hardest decisions when we named Corbin so I think it may take us a while. Both of us are about as stubborn as they come so compromise is tough for both of us, especially when we have our hearts set on something. I will say, we do have a few contenders at least! YAY! Then again, I’m not completely sure if we’ll share her name with everyone prior to her birth. We’re still trying to decide, but will keep you posted!
Being pregnant in the fall has been amazing so far! I am loving living in leggings, sweaters and booties and especially thankful I don’t have a food diversion toward pumpkin. I love pumpkin everything this time of year and enjoy a PSL just about daily. I am using that caffeine allowance wisely, my friends! I will update you all again soon!!
Lastly, I am loving comfy and cozy as mentioned above, therefore The Home T sent me the cutest tees in the mail and also gave me a discount for my followers so you can give them a try as well. Use the code CHELSI10 for 10% off your first order at The Home T website and enjoy!
We’ve been keeping a little secret… We’re PREGNANT!!!
Excited doesn’t even come close to describing our feelings about expecting our second baby! We’ve prayed and prayed and through tears, disappointment and then ultimately finding out we have been blessed with another sweet blessing has solidified my belief in how He has graciously given me the desires of my heart and our hearts as a family. What a great God we serve, y’all! We just feel so incredibly blessed and know that ultimately His timing is perfect. We are so thankful!
How we found out
I am one of those that knows pretty immediately that something is up. With every pregnancy (3) I have known super early, around 3-4 weeks. Which makes for a torturous couple of months since our doctor won’t see us until 8 weeks, unless there are signs of complications. So, I basically have to keep my mouth shut, and for those that know me, know that is HARD to do, and keeping the anticipation at bay as long as possible is near impossible. Also, I’m a horrible liar so keeping anything from my mom or my dearest friends is just not happening, especially if it’s something I am over the moon excited about! Anyways, I was feeling a little different and SUPER tired, so I thought, “I bet it’s nothing but I think I’ll take a test”. Three positive tests later and I was basically jumping up and down in the middle of the night and could hardly wait to tell Conrad. It was Father’s Day weekend so when Conrad FINALLY woke up and decided to grace us with his presence (it seemed like a lifetime til morning) I had a cute little sign and the test ( I know, gross) next to it so he wouldn’t know what the heck I was talking about! It was the sweetest and his reaction was the best! He was excited and to be honest he could have like ten kids, he really is the best daddy!! Moments like these are so amazing to share together and made me relive the moment we found out we were having Corbin. It’s indescribable and so special! Shortly there after, a few days later, because we couldn’t contain our excitement our families knew too, and Conrad may have spilled the beans to a few of our friends! 😉 It just couldn’t be kept!!
I seriously LOVED being pregnant with Corbin. I remember my doctor calling me and telling me he was going to induce me and I literally cried! Lol! I was so content (said no 9 month pregnant women ever HA!) but I truly was! One thing I don’t remember being was overly exhausted or maybe I’ve just forgotten in the past four years. This time around I will tell you, I am chronically exhausted. Which isn’t normal for me, as we’re always on the go around here! Like, I’m so tired that by about 4 p.m., I’m ready for bed, no joke! Corbin is very active so that may be part of it but I’m hoping my second trimester will give me more energy, and am actually praying on it. Ain’t nobody got time to be this tired with a busy toddler! I also tend to get nauseous from time to time and never experienced that before, so it’s definitely a little different.
Now, let’s talk food! I’m all about carbs, meat, and snow cones, and I want a huge coke from time to time! I don’t usually give in, but am led to wonder if I’m pregnant or just nursing a hangover! It feels like reliving my college days, y’all! So weird! I’m REALLY hoping the craving for fruit and veggies like I did with Corbin comes back ASAP or I’ll need to get on a more consistent work out regimen. 😉 I’ll be 11 weeks tomorrow, we’re due February 21st, so we are nearly done with trimester one and all is well with baby! PTL!!!
Lastly, I am SO excited about being preggo during the winter! Who doesn’t love oversized sweaters and leggings?! HOLLA! This mama is ready to style this bump in all things fall and winter! Last time I was pregnant during the summer, and I loved every minute of living in dresses, although I think this being completely opposite makes it so exciting too and will be a fun change! Not to mention, one of the silly upsides I know Conrad is thankful for is that my Nordstrom bill was MUCH lower this year during the #nsale!! AHHH! Only because I won’t be able to wear all that cuteness for very long. He totally lucked out! Stay tuned for all the maternity style, friends!! I am already planning!!! Lol!
How we told Corbin
We decided not to tell Corbin until my first doctors appointment. Talk about hard to keep a secret. Try keeping anything from a three year old, it’s not as easy as it seems. We went into the room with the sonography machine first and the nurse showed Corbin the baby. He looked a little confused at first, then the heartbeat sounded loudly, and Corbin’s response was “are those twins”? I probably had a look of confusion on my face after that question. So far it’s only one! He then proceeded to tell the nurse very matter of factly that I grew him in mamas tummy so I could grow another baby too, and that “his” baby wasn’t quite ready. He told her he was going to take care of “him” but wasn’t going to be changing any diapers. I believe it was a ‘No Way José” moment! Conrad got it all on video and it was the cutest! He also tells me daily that it’s a boy! 🙂 We shall see! It was so sweet and fun to tell him there and he’s so excited to have a playmate and friend! He got the very first picture and it’s on display on his message board in his room, which melts my heart. He is going to be the best big brother and we simply can’t wait to shortly be Henderson party of four!!
Thank you so much for reading!! I am so thankful for your love, support, and prayers in this new and changing season of life and can say our hearts feel so full already! I also hope you’ll stick around as we share what’s to come and what we’ll be having in the next few weeks!! Are you team boy or team girl? Tell me in the comments!
Wishing you a blessed week, friends!!
For this child I have prayed and the Lord has given me the desires of my heart. 1 Samuel 1:27
Thank you to Kimberly Correa for capturing this exciting and special time for our family!
